School Meals Sustain Johannesburg Teens
The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) has contributed a total of $30,000 to help feed 500 high school students in the poorest neighborhoods in Johannesburg, South Africa for six months. The grant monies support the works of ACFS Community Education and Feeding Scheme, a nonprofit established in 1945 to not only provide school meals but also to promote healthy, contributing citizens.
According to Executive Director of ACFS, Phindi Hlalele, "ACFS plans to offer these children who come to school with empty stomachs something to eat for the day. For some of them, the meal we offer is the only meal until the next day.
“Our new school year has just started. The school reopened yesterday, on 18 January and through your funding, we immediately started providing food to 500 learners at Emndeni Senior Secondary School. Through the generosity of your funds, we will be able to provide a meal a day for each student." The grant will fund the meal program for six months.
