Golf Tournament at Griffon des Sources Golf Course, Lachute Quebec, May 27, 2012

The 34th International Benefit Golf tournament to support The Prem Rawat Foundation took place at Griffon des Sources Golf Course, Lachute, Quebec on May 27, 2012. Donations were shared between TPRF and a local charity, 60 Million Girls, that supports education for girls in developing countries.

This may have been the 34th tournament to benefit TPRF internationally, but for Montreal it was the first, and in Canada only the second, after Vancouver last year. We had an excellent team of volunteers working with us, which contributed to its success—reaching our goal of helping to raise awareness for two wonderful charities. We attracted 13 foursomes and 88 people for supper at this exclusive, championship-level golf course.

On the day of the golf tournament we were blessed with good weather with a nice breeze and the sun shining down, making it perfect for golfing. Not being a golfer myself, I was glad to be with a foursome of women who are all golf lovers. I learned a lot from their gentle hints at how to improve my swing and actually hit the ball in the air.

Andrée, one of the volunteers, commented, “The pro, Adrien Bigras, was a delight to be around. He was very good with people, telling anecdotes, giving tips, and encouraging the players with their game. The time just flew by. To have a cart and snacks provided throughout the day was great! The generosity of all made a big difference in making this day a success.”

Wanda Bedard, president of 60 Million Girls said, “It means a lot to have our foundation showcased during such an evening, enabling our work to be known to ever more people. Your generosity will go a long way in supporting education for ever more girls.”

At the end of the gourmet banquet, Jacques Nolin, event manager and member of The Friends of Peace band, said, “We had so much fun watching everyone get up and dance. My twenty-something kids were there with their friends, who played in two foursomes. It was great to see their youthful enthusiasm and energy.”

As a result of the fundraiser, $1,000 was donated to each of the charities.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made the dream work. See video of the day.
