Water for Life in Sudan - TPRF Grant Funds Wells

Water is essential to life. But for the people of Southern Sudan, one of the world's poorest regions, finding enough water for their daily needs has always been a struggle—so much so that that the quest for it shapes their way of life. Young girls and women walk as far as six miles each day to collect water for their families, a chore that often keeps the girls from attending school. Poor water quality fosters disease and malnutrition.

Seasonal migrations of people in search of water stunts economic development.

The Prem Rawat Foundation is supporting the effort to change this centuries-old pattern. A $30,000 grant to Water for Sudan, an organization that drills clean-water wells close to destitute communities, will fund three wells, each capable of providing enough water close to their communities for the daily needs of 1,000-1,500 people.
